The Australian headquarters of international telecom technology company, Intasys Billing Technologies, has signed a $7 million contract to provide a complete GSM billing solution to the Kingdom of Nepal’s biggest telecommunications company.
Intasys Billing Technologies, through its Asia Pacific headquarters, is to provide a mobile billing solution to Nepal Telecommunications Corporation (NTC).
The system will give NTC the ability to provide a wide range of value-added services on the country’s newly upgraded GSM network.
The GSM billing solution allows NTC to scale-up rapidly in line with growth forecasts. Currently there are 15,000 GSM subscribers with this number expected to reach 150,000 in three years. The forecast estimates that approximately 300,000 subscribers will follow the national rollout.
"After an international tender round for the complete GSM network upgrade, NTC selected the Intasys Billing Technologies’ solution due to its cost effective scalability of solutions and its ability to fulfil the expectations of NTC," according to Intasys’ Sales Director, Fraser Scott.
"Intasys offers the flexibility NTC needs to facilitate its aggressive go-to-market strategy with the introduction of new services."
NTC’s legacy 900MHz GSM network has coverage primarily in Nepal’s capital city Kathmandu with the new upgraded system extending to Viratnagar, Birgun and Pokhara, including surrounding districts.
The rapid market growth for GSM handset will outstrip the country’s entire installed base of 240,000 fixed and Radio Telephones, more than doubling the national telephone penetration in three years.
The Intasys billing solution will provide NTC with a wide range of facilities not currently available in Nepal such as interconnection and billing functions, roaming services, handset rental, wireless advertisement, free phone and a cost effective pre-paid service.
The billing solution will also enable NTC to offer residents and businesses throughout Nepal other services such as voicemail, calling line identification (CLI), call waiting, call forwarding and a host of leading technology features in commercial-orientated packages.
The Intasys billing solution comes complete with mediation, provisioning and billing. The system also includes JBill customer care system, ViewBill on-line self-care and bill viewing. All solutions are integrated with interconnect software by Integration Management and Elixir print software to provide a complete turnkey solution for NTC.
"The complexities of designing the right solution for NTC has involved various parties working together to provide a complete mobile infrastructure.
The contract marks a significant milestone for Intasys with localised first-line support provided by Intasys’ partner World Distribution Nepal," stated Mr Scott.
